Narragunnawali is a program run by Reconciliation Australia. It is designed to help Australian schools and early learning services engage with reconciliation between non-Indigenous Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The word Narragunnawali comes from the language of the Ngunnawal people and means alive, wellbeing, coming together and peace.
The program offers a range of practical tools. These include curriculum resources that bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions into the classroom, professional learning to strengthen staff understanding of reconciliation, and webinars and workshops for educators who want to learn more. There is also a national awards program that recognises schools and services doing outstanding work in this space.
A key feature of the program is its Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) process, which is tailored specifically for education settings. A RAP is a structured plan that helps an organisation commit to building relationships, respect and opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The Narragunnawali version is designed to work within the context of a school or early learning service and its local community.
This resource is most relevant to teachers, early childhood educators, school leaders and anyone working in or with Australian education settings who wants to embed reconciliation into everyday practice.
